Blockage

I was accidentally checking-out the SoundDock® on the Bose® website a couple of days ago. Purely for humiliation purposes I decided to apply for a Bose® credit account so I could get my very own SoundDock® . . .

I called Bose® and reached this guy with a great voice and we chatted and giggled and he took down all my personal info and told me all about how he’d give me express delivery for FREE! . . .

We were getting along so well I just knew he was the salesman for me . . . and I could tell that for his part, he was clearly enamoured and I was the best customer he’d ever had . . . it was a heady experience indeed . . . the mutual excitement was practically palpable . . . I think there might have even been a touch of breathlessness!

. . . and then my credit application was denied.

Dock-blocked©!!!!

. . . it’s the worst thing that can happen to the recently iPod-converted who are tired of taking it in the ear!!!!

Ouch…I hate it when that happens!

  2. John Says:

It’s not Bose, but Kohl’s carries a wannabe that Melissa and I bought for her stepfather for Christmas. I believe normal retail is $60 and we got it for $35 on sale. iPod docks with it, just like the Bose, and of course it has it’s own speakers.

  3. HRT Says:

Tired of taking it in the ear eh? You might want to upgrade your headphones to Bose as well, guaranteed eargasms.

    I wouldn’t know, but I’ve heard…

Oh the humiliation…hope you can recover.

  5. Nuke Says:

I hate to tell you to settle for a second rate dock, butt here are a ton of other choices. Just about everybody has one for sale. I personally have seen them at Walmart, Target, Linens-and-things (don’t ask), Best Buy, and Circuit City.

    Plenty of choices!

John and Nuke: My first legal job in the U.S. was with Nakamichi … I learned a lot about stereo equipment . . . I owned a high-end Nakamchi stereo system for over a decade. Let’s just say that I’d rather spend the bigger dollar and get the better product. Why buy a Porsche and then put nylon seat covers over the leather seats? Besides, I doubt if Kohl’s would give me credit right now either …

HRT: I don’t need earphones or headphones … I want a SPEAKER SYSTEM DAMNIT!! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK FOR????? *cough* Apparently, right now, the answer is Yes.

Fuckers! I say we Take. Them. Down.

Bose is expensive because of their marketing, not because of their quality. Here’s a link that might interest you: http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html#alternatives. I did some research and bought a Cambridge dock for my mom. You might want to check it out–it sounds wonderful. Or go with Tivoli for another quality product. These are expensive machines, but cheaper than Bose, and you get much more bang for your buck.
I love your website. (I am one of your devoted lurkers.) Keep up the great writing. And by the way, you will still be hot at age 98, as all your readers would agree. 48 is just a number…

catlover: Thank you very much, that was an interesting article. Unless I went cross-eyed and missed it though [which is always possible], they didn’t list alternatives for the SoundDock®. I shall clearly have to investigate further! I am in return devoted to my lurkers!!

  10. catlover Says:

You’re not cross-eyed–they didn’t list alternatives. I just wanted to fill you in on Bose, and how it’s not worth your money. (The gods were smiling on you by denying your credit application!) Take a look at Cambridge Soundworks. As I mentioned above, I bought my mom a CD player, to which one can also attach an iPod. Browse around the Cambridge site and see if there’s a machine that suits your needs. Also check out Tivoli Audio. Their radios are the best in the world, and their design sense is classic and beautiful. I got my dad the radio for Xmas, and he hooked up his iPod to it and says the sound is fantastic. These are two really reputable companies that make good stuff. I know how important it is to have music around, so good luck in your search for the right dock.

By the way, here are two quotes that I like (they’re in my email signature)–thought you might appreciate them as well…

“There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.”
    –Albert Schweitzer

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”
    –Timothy Leary

catlover: Again, thank-you!! Do you think maybe you could adopt me as a sister and buy me one of those nifty sound docking systems? Heh … I will check-out your suggestions at work tomorrow. In the meantime, I am going to email a small but nifty collection of “kat quotes” to you. >^,,^<
