Blonde Moment No. 1,389.2

I’m really not a fan of clutter. I like everything to be in its little place and I don’t like for it to be out of place. Of course, what may appear to be slightly messy to somebody else is in perfect placement to me. Just do.not.move.anything. and nobody will get hurt. I am by nature very tidy but not necessarily scrupulously clean. My dragon collection is artfully arranged, but it might not have felt the soft caress of a feather duster in a few months. There are various files and papers on my home desk but they are specifically where I need them to be right now.

Then there’s my refridgerator . . . I have one or ten bits and bobs held to the walls with various magnetic clips. I like simple, plain metal magnets and they are surprisingly [to me] difficult to find. Thus I was forced to purchase some large, ugly, plastic clips to hold up the various greetings cards that my sister sent to me from England. Except they kept sliding down and falling off. Much like my clothes on a Saturday night. Well, maybe a few years ago. I actually allowed the errant slipperiness of the cards to drive me a little mad for several weeks and then I decided to DO something about it.

A day or two later I wanted to add my sister’s birthday card to the other cards. Only, I couldn’t remember exactly where I had PUT them! I tore through my tiny little apartment searching hither and yon. I looked in my memorabilia chest. I checked and re-checked the bare kitchen counter several times just in case the missing cards were just kidding and were really there all along. I looked under every sheet of paper on my desk. I couldn’t believe that I might have thrown-out my sister’s cards. She’s my ONLY sister for crissakes!!!! Which happens to make her my favourite sister. After storming back and forth through the various rooms for a while, I finally had to admit defeat. Apparently, I must have sleep-walked into the kitchen and cleverly hidden the cards at the bottom of the rubbish bin. I was sad.

It took me a day or two to get over my own carelessness, but eventually I forgave myself and promised my new birthday card that I would treasure it and not make it mysteriously disappear. I then went to walk into my little home office to programme a daily computer reminder “Do NOT lose 2008 birthday card” and . . .

. . . the fucking cards are hanging off the louvred door where I had carefully placed them several days before. The very door that I practically brush against every single time I walk into that room.

I blame it on The Estrogen. In fact, from now on I’m blaming everything on The Estrogen. Even though I’m not actually even pre-pre-menopausal as yet.

SO temtped to say, “Ohhhhhhhhhhh DK, youre such a card.” Buthtat would be predictable and lame and really stupid. Hey, wait, I’m a country music dj! That’s expected of me! …”Ohhhhhhhhhhh DK, youre such a card.” (banjo riff)

Oh, I have those moments almost every day. The other day, I wrote a check number and amount down on a piece of paper because I knew I would need it when I balanced an account later on. Yesterday, I was looking furiously for the stupid thing. I dug through my garbage, my recycle bin, looked on the floor under the desk, etc. The bookkeeper came up to my desk asking about it, and I told her I couldn’t find the paper where I wrote it down, and she pointed to something and said, “Is that it?” She pointed to a post-it stuck right to my monitor, that I have probably looked at a thousand times this week. Jeez. I’m not even blonde.

It happens to us all, the other day I was gathering a bunch of items that I needed to put into the car and after grabbing everything I needed, I started looking for my keys, but I couldn’t find them anywhere…

…because they were already in my hand.

    DOH!

They say the mind’s the first thing to go Julia….but I’m not sure what to make of it in your case since we all know that you lost your mind ages ago ;O)

I bet you wander around your apartment looking for you sunglasses; you know, the ones you have on top of your head. My fave thing to do is to take the extra effort to write out a shopping or to-do list only to leave the damn thing on my desk when I leave the house to go shopping/run errands.
