Jazz Lite
Over the past 8-9 months or so my beautiful Jazz kitty has shed about 7 of his former 24-lbs and no longer qualifies for his nickname as “big fat kitty” (which he loved and would answer to)… After much financial shifting and scraping I finally got him to a V.E.T. for blood testing a couple of days ago. I had JUST gotten him into the carrier when he peed all over himself … definitely a protest-pee … then he howled all the way from the house to the car just to let the neighbours know he was being tortured … basically I spent that evening first torturing a kat and then crawling around on my knees begging him to stop being mad at me and come out from behind the chair. But I digress, it turns out that Jazz is diabetic and within the next few days and for the rest of his life he is going to need to be injected with insulin twice a day. (Make note all you twits who insist that kats are SO independent!) This seriously affects both my already strained-to-bursting budget and my ability to travel anywhere overnight (being the world traveller that I would like to become). On the bright side, I am relieved that it is not cancer or kidney failure. Please feel free to send cash or insulin donations.

Aph, my friend Nicole’s dog, has diabetes and requires regular insulin… might be a good contact if you have questions or just want to commisserate if commisseration is needed… and as I typed that line I realized that one of the falicies of responding to old entries is the time factor, herein being you probably are well versed in the challenges and methods of supplying insulin to a four legged friend and past any emotional stress it might have initially caused… this would be one of my duh, doh! moments… they befall me from time to time, much to my amusement… thank you for helping me into one

On the bright side, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how utterly easy it is to give a shot to a kat. He doesn’t even notice most of the time. If he does pay any attention then he thinks I’m just petting him. Very slightly more distracting is rubbing transdermal steroid gel into the ear of my asthmatic kat. Far more of a challenge is the liquid laxative that I now have to give orally to my Siamese. Ick.
