For those of you who are not familiar with James Purefoy, he is an English actor who starred most recently in the “Rome” miniseries in the role of Marc Antony. I do not have a schoolgirl-like crush on him. It is a grown-up crush, thank you very much. While I would imagine that in real life he probably goes by “Jim” or some other such contraction, my English upbringing will not allow me to refer to him by such a familiar term. Unless we happen to be alone together in flagrante delicto, in which case I will call him anything he pleases.

Now, as far as the Rome miniseries, I must say, while I thoroughly enjoyed the licentious fictionalisation of Atia’s character (who, in real life is reputed to have been quite pious), what happened to Cleopatra? Where was her sultry charm, her powerful personality, her smoldering sexuality? in the Rome miniseries she came across as a whiny, spoiled brat. She was simply not a likeable, nor even sexy, character. [On an almost completely unrelated note, I couldn't help but notice while browsing around the recent Ancient Rome exhibit at the museum that my father's profile is practically identical to that of Julius Caesar. Apparently, there was some hanky-panky between my ancestors and the Romans a dozen or two generations ago.]

Two of my lovely girlfriends [who happen to be sisters] recently took me to the cinema and then to dinner [Dream Date No. Two!]. We hadn’t gotten together in months, so we had a LOT of catching-up to do. Amongst many other things, I found out that The Girls, as I fondly refer to them, had created a fabulous website for my fellow countryman, James Purefoy!!!! I am taking a moment here to blatantly pimp promote their hard work and creativity on the fan-site. I’ll take a further moment to embarrass The Girls by mentioning that they are two of the most beautiful, smart, and talented women I have ever had the privilege to befriend.

In the meantime, I would like to propose James Purefoy as the next actor to play James Bond. That’s not all I would like to propose to him, but I’ll keep the rest of that thought to myself. Until he emails or calls me, that is . . . um, Mr. Purefoy? . . . James, if I may? in the unlikely event that you come across this website . . . call me! … Um, if you wouldn’t mind, preferably before my notoriously short attention span kicks in and the crush wears off. We wouldn’t want that now, would we? I mean, what are the odds of finding a never-married, 40-something, heterosexual actor??? . . . and what are the chances of you finding a somewhat jaded, middle-aged divorcée with an immature infatuation for an actor of the same nationality as yourself? Beyond any doubt, this is a match made in Eden.
